As much as I think that telecommuting is a common sense item, I see that many companies and groups don’t agree yet. When will we finally start to see a big push toward remote employees and virtual offices?
A tweep of mine (@telesaur) had the following post on this topic:
“How many smart folks are willing to drive one hour each way to get from one computer screen to another?” http://bit.ly/3Qqgj
The article is a very interesting article and I wonder how long we will continue to do things the old way. Here are the issues:
- Green movement is here to stay
- Gas prices will continue to be high
- We will run out of land and money to keep building highways
- Pollution will continue to be an issue
- Mass transit will continue to meet opposition to the cost
Why with all of the issues above can we not see that a simple solution exists for many jobs? Telecommuting/telework/virtual office!! If people aren’t having to commute to work everyday do we still need the transit systems? If we cut the amount of time and miles that cars are required wouldn’t the price of oil and pollution both see noticable decreases?
Truly I am amazed that this movement hasn’t made more progress. The change is at hand. The answer is SO obvious. It is really a question of when.
What do you think?
