Ran across a great post on the Harvard Business Review that is called “7 Things This CEO Hates About Business” by Jeff Stibel. The content in his post was fantastic. He keys on somethings that really are annoyances.
His seven things are:
1. Ego
2. Money
3. Travel
4. Business Speak
5. Meetings
6. Business Books
7. Time
As an addition to business speak I would include technical jargon. There is way too much business speak/tech jargon out there today. It is something that should be left between the technicians.
Also, one additional point that could be added in my opinion:
8. Change Resistance
Too many people in business are focused on their specific idea of “how it’s done” to even listen to the potential of doing it differently. Sometimes it’s lack of understanding but many other times it is merely a case of “that’s how we’ve always done it”. At one time someone started the business with a vision for something better and since then they have gotten comfortable in the way things are done.
Mr. Stribel had a great post and I think that it brings up some great points that you can use to refocus. He made one other point that I would like to point out:
I can’t imagine the number of hours that I work each week but it doesn’t feel like work. If things aren’t going well, I go home. And I tell my team to do the same. Sick, tired, bored…just go home. Come back when you are ready to enjoy work and if you don’t, quit — life is too short and work really is fun.
Great point and great post. Take a look a see what you think…
