Every week here on the Refocusing Technology blog, you can always count on me to bring you a new slice of the social world… even if it is one of the six million Twitter applications that are in existence out on the World Wide Web! Yep, you got it – I am a big Twitter fan, so I am always looking for the newest, most unique Twitter gems out there. Next week I will be blogging about something other than Twitter, but I wanted to give you one more to try out! This week it is a web application called “Twitterfall“.
A few weeks ago I blogged about an application called TweetGrid. It was the application where you could have your screen broken up into up to six boxes and each one could display search terms you are interested in that are being posted in Twitter. Twitterfall gives you a slightly different spin. This web application drops tweets on your page and gives you an option to filter them in real-time. For example, on the upper-left hand side of the screen, you can see the popular trending terms in Twitter and when you click on one, the tweets falling onto your screen automatically change to match your query. When you hover above a tweet, you pause the stream and then have several options like to follow the tweeter, favorite the tweet, reply, retweet, or direct message. Very cool functionality!
The interface might seem overwhelming at first, but be assured that it is very customizable, and the payoff might be worth it. For example, this application is a great way to find new people to follow in real-time who are interested in the same things as you. It encourages real-time interaction too, which can be neat when twittering is occurring during a sporting event or conference. And speaking of events or conferences, Twitterfall has a presentation option, so your audience (present and not present) can view real-time tweets of the event. There are a lot of possibilities, you just have to try it out!
So give Twitterfall a look, and in the meantime, I am going to try and find the next great social application fo you to use! Also, the fun does not stop here! I am blogging and twittering all week long at my website, http://robertstanke.com. Come join me in the social interaction world to learn more about all of the exciting ways to reach your network, sell your products and services on the web, and learn new things!
