Why did Refocusing move to DreamHost?

by Jeremy on April 26, 2010

Well, we’re giving a new host a try.  The new host is DreamHost.com.  So far, so good.

Why did we move?

Well, I have found that although WordPress does run in an IIS environment, it’s definitely not the optimal environment for it.  It’s caused some performance issues and conflicts with different things that I have tried doing.  So, I decided to try letting WordPress run in it’s native environment to see how much more I liked it.

Second reason, DreamHost allows unlimited domains.  My previous host only allowed me to run a limited number of domains.  I am working on a couple of other domains that should release over the next month.  My plan would be to expand the number of sites so I felt this was a necessary upgrade.

Why Dreamhost?

I’ve heard some great things about DreamHost.  They’re even linked to by WordPress.org for running WordPress.  It appears that they try to keep the server utilization a little lower so that performance is better (we’ll see if that holds true).  That would be an excellent reason to use their hosting.

The control panel that they have available is pretty impressive.  It’s home grown so they have done quite a bit of customization to fit the needs of their clients.  Many of the functionalities you would expect are there and there are some cool add-ons.

So far, I am pretty impressed by DreamHost.  We’ll see where we go from here.  I hope that DreamHost can suit the needs that we have going forward.

Have you used DreamHost?  What are your impressions?
