Make your Twitter stream and other social networks more than just text with Jing!
The online world has become one big melting pot of blog posts, tweets, and RSS feeds! And while that is all fine and dandy, more and more tools are being introduced for sharing more visual elements of our world. For example, YouTube has great sharing features built-in to allow you to send viral videos onto your network. Facebook has embedded photo and video capabilities that allow you to share and tag your friends in photos that show up right in their “News Feed”. I would like to suggest another tool that makes sharing your videos and screen casts easy… and free! The software download is called “Jing”.
Yep, you heard me right, it is a software download! Who downloads software anymore, right?!?! I mean, that is soooooo 2008! In all seriousness, though, Jing is a great, small tool for sharing pictures, videos, and screen casts via Twitter, IM, email, etc. The download is fast and easy and Jing works on both the Windows and Mac OS platforms. While Jing is free, Jing Pro can offer you much more for just under $15.00 a year. Jing Pro delivers more customization options, HD support, etc., but I like free and the free version is all I need!
Jing works perfect for me when I just want to capture a quick image on my screen or a whole window. At the same time, I am getting into doing more screen casting, and launching a recording session in Jing is easy. When you are all done capturing what you want to share you get a short and simple link to put in your IM, email, tweet… whatever! You can also embed images and video right into services that don’t require a link, so that is nice too.
Sure, there are some other more complex screen and image capturing tools out there, but when you need something quick and dirty to get the job done, check out Jing!

I love Jing. I’ve been using it for over a year now. I always have it running in the background and have a shortcut to pull up the screen capture. I think it is a must have tool.

Sounds like Jing is an awesome thing!
Besides screen captures, I may use it to record how-to’s for my clients.
